Have you ever stopped to consider how you're feeling in the present moment? "Sensing freshly" is a term that was introduced to me recently in a course on Inner Relationship Focusing, and it refers to the act of tuning into your body in the current moment and being curious about the sensations and emotions you're experiencing.
The beauty of sensing freshly is that it acknowledges that words don't always encapsulate the entirety of a feeling. For example, saying "I feel angry" can mean something different each time you say it. One moment, anger might feel like heat in your chest and neck and tightness in your throat, while at another time, it might feel like a tightness in your belly and an urge to lie down.
Sensing freshly invites you to approach your experiences with curiosity and openness, without immediately resorting to labels or preconceived notions about how you should feel. It's about being present to what's happening in your body right now, rather than relying on past experiences or expectations to define your current emotional state.
When you sense freshly, you're encouraged to use descriptive words to articulate what you're experiencing, but you also recognize that these words may not always fully capture the complexity of the moment. In fact, even if you experience a similar sensation at a different time, the same word may not fit as it did before.
By meeting your experiences with fresh awareness, you allow for a sense of aliveness to enter into the present moment. You don't know what's coming next, and that can be both exciting and intimidating. But by embracing this uncertainty and staying open to the moment, you create space for a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.
Ultimately, sensing freshly is about returning to a place of love. When you approach your experiences with an open heart and a willingness to be present, you create the opportunity for love to flow into your life. And when you feel heard and understood, whether by yourself or others, you experience a sense of being loved that can be truly transformative.
So, the next time you find yourself feeling a certain way, take a moment to sense freshly. Tune into your body and be curious about what you're experiencing without immediately labeling it. Allow yourself to be present to the moment, and see what new insights and understandings arise. By doing so, you may find that you're able to connect with a deeper sense of aliveness and love in your life.
